that prepare individuals to capably and confidently participate in construction of strong, successful communities.
To achieve this, the Ocean of Light International Schools aims to develop in the students those capacities, skills, habits
and attitudes necessary to enable them to provide for their families; to effectively contribute to the peace,
prosperity and tranquility of mankind and society; and to participate in the creation of new institutions
processes and relationships as they are defined and established (Cambridge International Examination).
The Ocean of Light International Schools is directly administered by a Board of Education nominated by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Tonga. The Bahá’í Faith is the newest of the World Religions. The main purpose of the Faith is to bring about the unity of mankind. One of the principle implications of this is that the development of moral character is crucial in the education and training of individuals and equal emphasis must be placed on this area as well as training in all of the arts and sciences that will be of benefit to the world.
The school strives to incorporate Bahá’í ideals, principles and concepts into the curriculum and organisation of the school in a way that does not indoctrinate but instead focuses on the spiritual principles and values that are common to and unite all the religions and belief systems in the world.
At Ocean of Light International School we strive… To provide an education of internationally recognized standards in the forms of academic, moral, physical and spiritual education.
To nurture the love of learning in the school community. To provide a safe, happy and encouraging environment.
To teach, practice and role model virtues. To acknowledge “Unity in Diversity”
To be confident in sharing our hidden talents and to prepare us for what we may encounter in life.
To connect the school community with the wider community. To develop the capacity of the school community to serve humanity.
To encourage and develop life skills and a sense of curiosity to empower students to make informed choices.
The school aims at providing a solid education by enhancing the children’s ability to learn through encouragement, love and discipline to strengthen their moral behavior and character. It is the strong belief of the school that academic and moral education are inseparable and equally important in the overall development of an individual. Universal virtues such as love, justice, honesty and truthfulness are taught and practiced so that the children are brought up as morally sound human beings who contribute positively to the betterment of society.
The teaching of virtues uses resources from the Ruhi Institute in Columbia, South America, the Badi Foundation in Macau SAR, China as well as other sources from the Ruhi Institute in Colombia, South America. Both of these curricula are used broadly across the world in a range of settings and provide education about spiritual concepts but not in the mode of religious instruction.
